Kremlin Bars Anti-War Party Yabloko from Parliamentary Elections Amid Ukraine Conflict
The Kremlin has barred the Yabloko party, the only officially registered party opposing the war in Ukraine, from participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections. This decision was upheld by Russia's Supreme Court following a suit by the pro-Kremlin nationalist party Rodina, which accused Yabloko of receiving undeclared campaign support from Western sources. Yabloko, which has not won seats in the State Duma since 2003, was initially allowed on the ballot by the Central Election Commission. The party's leader, Nikolai Rybakov, has denied the allegations and plans to appeal the decision. The move is seen as part of the Kremlin's strategy to suppress dissent and maintain control over the political landscape.
