These effects were observed to persist at six and twelve months, and chronic pain was also associated with higher rates of depressive symptoms.

The steepest rise was observed in women with type 2 diabetes, with prescriptions climbing from 2.3% to 16.9% by early 2025. Women with a history of gestational diabetes also saw an increase from 0.4% to 2.7%, while those with diagnosed obesity or overweight experienced the fastest relative growth, from 0.4% to 3.9%. The study notes that most women started these medications at least three months postpartum, and patients are advised to discontinue GLP-1 drugs during pregnancy.
