Volvo and Boliden Achieve Milestone in Autonomous Transport at Swedish Mine
Volvo Autonomous Solutions and mining company Boliden have successfully completed an autonomous transport project at the Garpenberg site in Sweden. The project involved moving nearly 700,000 tonnes of rock fill material without drivers, using Volvo's autonomous haulage system. This system completed over 11,000 transport cycles, covering 56,000 kilometers. The material was used to reinforce a local dam, marking a significant achievement in autonomous transport technology. The project is part of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2023 between Volvo and Boliden, aiming to explore further collaboration in autonomous solutions.
