The Center in Davenport Seeks Community Support Following Dual Vandalism Incidents
The Center, a non-profit organization in Davenport, Iowa, is appealing for community support and financial donations after experiencing two separate acts of vandalism that have caused extensive damage to its HVAC system, electrical infrastructure, and roof. The first incident, which occurred in the spring, resulted in nearly $100,000 in damages and an estimated $65,000 insurance shortfall. While repairs were in progress, the property was vandalized a second time last Thursday, significantly increasing the scope of the necessary work. According to Pennie Kellenberger, director of The Center, and associate director Michael Gayman, current estimates indicate approximately $165,000 in remaining restoration and security-related costs. For 25 years, The Center has provided critical services to individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, poverty, and other challenges, including meals, showers, clothing, and connections to mental health care.
