Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation functions as the state's insurer of last resort for residential and commercial property owners who are unable to secure coverage in the private insurance market. The corporation operates through two distinct programs: the FAIR Plan and the Coastal Plan. To qualify for coverage, applicants must generally demonstrate that they have been denied comparable property insurance by at least one authorized private insurer in Louisiana. Eligibility also requires the property to be located in Louisiana, insurable, and meet specific safety and maintenance standards. The FAIR Plan provides property insurance throughout Louisiana, including high-risk inland areas, while the Coastal Plan specifically serves designated coastal regions that face increased exposure to hurricanes and other wind-related losses. Louisiana Citizens only provides property insurance and does not offer auto or life insurance.
