Ed Darmanin Embarks on Historic Electric Motorcycle Journey Around Australia
Ed Darmanin, a retired electrical engineer from Sydney, is set to embark on a groundbreaking journey to circumnavigate mainland Australia on an electric motorcycle. This ambitious expedition, covering approximately 18,000 kilometers, marks the first attempt of its kind. Darmanin's route will take him through every state and territory, starting from Sydney and moving in an anti-clockwise direction. The journey is meticulously planned, with Darmanin having developed a detailed charging strategy using GPS route planning and PlugShare to identify charging locations. He has also coordinated with roadhouses and remote hotels to ensure access to power points. The trip is divided into six sections, with family members joining him for certain legs. Darmanin's choice of an electric motorcycle over a traditional petrol bike is influenced by the current fuel supply crisis in Australia, which has made petrol availability uncertain in remote areas.
