Senator John Fetterman Responds to Wall Street Journal Report, Apologizes for 'Dumb Joke'
U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D., Pa.) has responded to a recent Wall Street Journal report, calling it a 'hit piece from disgruntled staffers' and dismissing its claims as 'lies, half-truths, innuendos, smears, and anonymous.' The report detailed instances where Fetterman allegedly tried to avoid meetings, including one with leaders from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) regarding Medicaid cuts and a funeral for three York County police officers. Fetterman specifically addressed a text message where he questioned the necessity of meeting with CHOP, stating, 'Well, I’m not [worried about Medicaid cuts],' and suggesting they 'just want free trips to DC.' He told CNN that this comment was a 'dumb joke' and offered a sincere apology, affirming his office's advocacy for CHOP. He also clarified that he privately ordered flowers and attended a fundraiser for the fallen officers' families, despite not attending the public funeral.
