Cleveland Clinic's New Design Focuses on Caregiver Well-Being to Enhance Patient Care
The Cleveland Clinic is pioneering a new approach to healthcare design with its upcoming Neurological Institute building, set to open in 2027. This facility emphasizes caregiver-centered design, recognizing the critical role of caregiver well-being in delivering high-quality patient care. Kristen Vargo, Director of Nursing for the Neurological Institute, highlights the integration of flexible architectural design to improve both patient and caregiver experiences. The concept of 'Lavender Rooms' is introduced as a dedicated space for caregivers to decompress, reflecting a shift from traditional hospital designs focused solely on clinical function. This initiative emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscoring the importance of supporting healthcare workers' mental and physical health.
