Efforts to Enhance DC Airspace Safety Continue Following Potomac Collision
Eighteen months after a fatal collision between a military helicopter and a regional jet over the Potomac River, efforts to improve airspace safety in Washington, D.C., are ongoing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued 50 recommendations to enhance safety at Reagan National Airport and across the U.S. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy has urged Congress to act on these recommendations. The incident, which resulted in 67 fatalities, has prompted discussions on air traffic control procedures, staffing, and technology upgrades. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is working on implementing changes, with a complete overhaul expected by 2028.
