Jade Carpenter, a business attorney and political newcomer, has announced her candidacy for the mayoral position in Evanston, Illinois. Carpenter, a resident of Evanston's 2nd Ward and a founding partner at Zeidman & Carpenter PLLC, is the first to officially file paperwork for the special mayoral election set for April 2027. This election follows the announcement by current Mayor Daniel Biss of his intention to resign on October 18, 2026, to potentially pursue a congressional seat. Carpenter's campaign emphasizes her commitment to the community and her experience in small business law, particularly advocating for women and minority entrepreneurs. The mayoral position in Evanston, a city of approximately 76,000 residents, offers a modest annual salary of just over $25,000, which is below the livable wage for the area. Carpenter has begun building her campaign infrastructure and engaging with local residents to understand their needs.
