MTA Subway Construction in East Harlem Disrupts Local Businesses
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is undertaking a major construction project to extend the Q subway line from East 96th Street to East 125th Street in East Harlem, New York. This construction has turned much of Second Avenue into a construction site, affecting local businesses with scaffolding and fences that obstruct customer access. Despite the disruptions, many residents and business owners view the project as a necessary step to improve transportation in one of Manhattan's largest subway deserts. The new line is expected to reduce commute times and boost local commerce, although construction is anticipated to last at least five more years.
