Rare September Rain and Coastal Flooding Hit Los Angeles Due to Hurricane Marie
Los Angeles experienced unusual September rainfall and coastal flooding over the Labor Day weekend as remnants of Hurricane Marie impacted the region. According to the National Weather Service, most areas in L.A. County received between 0.25 to 1 inch of rain, with mountain regions seeing higher amounts. The storm also brought 6- to 10-foot waves, leading to multiple rescues and warnings against entering the water for all but experienced surfers. A flood advisory was issued for parts of west-central Los Angeles County, including areas with recent burn scars, due to the risk of minor debris flows and localized flooding. The city of Seal Beach closed some beach parking lots until Wednesday due to elevated surf and flooding.
