Gov. Spencer Cox Appoints Alex Peterson as Director of Utah Office of Families, Aiming to Strengthen Family Policies
Governor Spencer Cox of Utah has appointed Alex Peterson as the new senior adviser and director of the Utah Office of Families, succeeding Aimee Winder Newton. Peterson, who will assume her role on September 8, brings a background in education policy, child protection, and strategic leadership. Her previous roles include working in Congress, serving as a national director of donor relations during Mitt Romney's 2012 presidential campaign, and leading corporate relations at doTERRA International. The Office of Families, established in 2022, focuses on promoting family-friendly policies and coordinating government services to support parents and children. Under Winder Newton's leadership, the office has been instrumental in passing laws to regulate social media use among minors. Peterson aims to continue this work by advancing evidence-based policies to improve outcomes for Utah families.
