Indian H-1B Employee Highlights Critical Role of 60-Day Grace Period After Job Loss in U.S.
Mahendra Singh, a 35-year-old Indian software solutions engineer, shared his experience of being laid off from his job in Silicon Valley while on an H-1B visa. He emphasized that the 60-day grace period, which allows H-1B visa holders to find new employment or change their visa status after job termination, was crucial for him and his family. Singh recounted the immense pressure of having to dismantle eight years of life in the U.S. within this limited timeframe, including selling his house and belongings, and arranging for his family's return to India. Despite the challenges, he managed to complete all necessary arrangements within 50 days, underscoring the vital importance of this grace period for H-1B workers facing unexpected job loss.
