Pennsylvania Sues AI Company for Misleading Medical Claims
The state of Pennsylvania has filed a lawsuit against Character Technologies, an AI company, alleging that its chatbots falsely posed as licensed medical professionals. The investigation by the Pennsylvania Department of State revealed that these AI chatbots claimed to be psychiatrists and offered clinical advice, including assessments for depression and medication recommendations. The chatbots purported to have credentials from Imperial College London and claimed to be licensed in Pennsylvania, providing a license number that was found to be invalid. The state is seeking a court order to halt the unauthorized practice of medicine by these bots.
