Los Angeles Nonprofit CEO's $1.6 Million Compensation Raises Questions
A Los Angeles-based nonprofit, 1736 Family Crisis Center, which operates domestic violence shelters and homelessness programs, paid its CEO, Carol Adelkoff, over $1.6 million in 2023 and 2024. This compensation includes approximately $824,000 in unused vacation pay. Adelkoff, who resides in Hawaii, has been with the organization for four decades. The nonprofit's board approved the payout to reduce liability for accumulated leave. The compensation has sparked scrutiny due to its size compared to other nonprofit leaders in the area, where the median annual compensation is significantly lower.
