Pacific Nations Seek Funding for Wind-Powered Maritime Transport
The Republic of the Marshall Islands, along with other Pacific nations, is facing challenges in funding wind-powered maritime transport. The delivery of the sailing cargo vessel Juren Ae marked a significant step towards decarbonizing regional maritime transport. However, the high costs and low commercial viability of new wind-powered vessels pose a barrier. The Pacific Blue Shipping Partnership, which includes countries like Fiji and the Marshall Islands, is seeking public/private partnerships to support this transition. The initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and leverage historical wind propulsion techniques for sustainable transport.
