International Conference in Colombia Aims to Accelerate Transition from Fossil Fuels
A significant international conference is taking place in Santa Marta, Colombia, co-hosted by Colombia and the Netherlands, focusing on transitioning away from fossil fuels. The event, attended by representatives from over 50 countries, aims to discuss concrete strategies to phase out oil, gas, and coal. This initiative comes amid a global energy crisis exacerbated by geopolitical tensions and high fossil fuel prices. The conference seeks to address the urgent need for countries to shift towards renewable energy sources, with discussions on reallocating subsidies from fossil fuels to renewables and creating new employment opportunities for those in the fossil fuel sector. Notably, the United States and China, two of the largest fossil fuel consumers, are not participating in the conference.
