Wiltshire Students Secure Second Place in International Rocketry Championship at Farnborough Airshow
A team of students from Abbeyfield School in Chippenham, Wiltshire, achieved second place in the 2026 International Youth Rocketry Championship. The event was held at the Farnborough International Airshow, where the students represented the UK after winning the national UK Rocketry Challenge earlier in the year. The competition required teams to design, build, and launch a model rocket capable of carrying a raw egg as a payload while adhering to strict flight criteria. The event is part of the Farnborough Airshow's Pioneers of Tomorrow program, which aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM fields. Kevin Craven, CEO of ADS, and Kata Escott, managing director of Airbus Defence and Space, praised the students' achievements and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering future engineering talent.
