New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 36, recently announced her decision to freeze her eggs via social media. She shared a video depicting herself receiving hormone injections, a part of the egg preservation process, and openly discussed the associated costs, medications, and procedures in the United States. Ocasio-Cortez stated her intention was to 'legitimize and normalize' conversations around the procedure, emphasizing her desire to maintain control over her own life. Following her announcement, she faced criticism, particularly from conservative politicians and supporters of President Trump. Despite the backlash, her initial Instagram post garnered over 1,250 comments, with many expressing support and encouragement. This public disclosure comes as the number of women opting for egg preservation has significantly increased, with Jennifer Eaton, president of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, reporting a six-fold rise between 2014 and 2024.
