Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture Announces State Literary Awards Amid Leadership Change
Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture has announced the winners of the country's top state literary awards, including the Nile Award, State Appreciation Awards, and State Awards for Excellence. This announcement follows the recent resignation of Culture Minister Gihan Zaki, with Higher Education Minister Abdelaziz Qonsowa stepping in as acting Culture Minister. The Nile Award, Egypt's highest literary honor, was awarded to Youssef Nofal, a Professor Emeritus of Rhetoric and Modern Literary Criticism. The State Appreciation Awards in Literature were given to poet Ahmed Fadl Shabloul, Comparative Literature scholar Marie Thérèse Abdelmessih, and literary critic Mohamed Naguib El-Telawy. The awards highlight the importance of literary criticism and the role of women in Egypt's literary scene, with Shereen Abouelnaga and Mohamed Abdel Hafez Nassef receiving the State Awards for Excellence in Literature.
