Bryn Mawr Film Institute Screens 'In Pursuit: Philadelphia and the Making of America Episode 8 – Revolution (1964 – 1968)'
The Bryn Mawr Film Institute is hosting a free theatrical screening of Episode 8 of the ten-part documentary series, 'In Pursuit: Philadelphia and the Making of America,' titled 'Revolution (1964 – 1968).' This episode focuses on the dramatic five years of the Civil Rights era in Philadelphia. It highlights the North Philadelphia riot, the emergence of WWII veteran Cecil B. Moore as the leader of the Philadelphia NAACP, and his tenacious desegregation protest movement at Girard College. The documentary also covers Martin Luther King, Jr.'s involvement in Moore's movement and the rise of police captain Frank Rizzo. Furthermore, it explores the influence of King and Moore on the gay and lesbian rights movement, detailing the 'Annual Reminder' protests at Independence Hall starting in 1965, which predated the Stonewall events and contributed to the Gay Pride era.
