U.S. Senator Katie Britt Addresses Data Center Controversy, Advocates for Balanced Approach
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) has weighed in on the national debate surrounding the construction of data centers, emphasizing the need for a balanced perspective that considers both economic advantages and potential drawbacks. Britt highlighted the importance of empowering local communities to evaluate the benefits of tax revenue against concerns such as increased power rates, environmental impacts, and aesthetic effects. She noted that while data centers can be beneficial for some communities, they may not be suitable for others, depending on a cost-benefit analysis that includes factors like long-term job creation and power consumption. Britt also joined other Washington lawmakers in advocating for American leadership in the information and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors, stressing that American-built data centers are crucial for protecting the nation from reliance on foreign-stored information.
