OpenAI and Industry Leaders Call for Unified AI Cybersecurity Defense Amid Rising Threats
OpenAI, alongside over 100 other companies including Google, Microsoft, AWS, IBM, Oracle, Visa, and Mastercard, has issued an open letter urging governments and the private sector to establish a unified defense against AI-enabled cyberattacks. This call to action comes as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates warns of a 'turbulent AI era,' emphasizing the grave threat AI poses to jobs and human life, and the accelerating pace of AI-enabled cybersecurity incidents. The letter highlights that current defenses are inadequate and that a coordinated global effort is necessary to combat the increasing sophistication and widespread nature of AI-powered attacks. These attacks are expected to become faster and cheaper as AI models advance, putting critical infrastructure like hospitals, financial institutions, and utility systems at risk. The initiative stresses the need to use AI to identify and resolve vulnerabilities before adversaries can exploit them, and to share threat intelligence at machine speed.
