Los Angeles Central Library Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Public Festivities
The Los Angeles Central Library, an iconic art deco building in downtown Los Angeles, celebrated its 100th anniversary with a series of public events attended by approximately 12,000 people. The library, which houses nearly 3 million books and features 89 miles of shelves, is renowned for its architectural beauty, including a central rotunda adorned with murals by Dean Cornwell and a distinctive zodiac chandelier. The centennial celebration included various activities such as a vintage injection-mold vending machine producing wax models of the library's sphinxes, and opportunities for visitors to engage with the library's extensive historical and genealogical resources. The library has been a significant cultural and educational hub in Los Angeles, serving as a filming location for numerous films and TV shows and providing a wide range of services to the community.
