Revolutionary War Soldiers Receive Formal Burial After 250 Years
The remains of 44 American soldiers and dependents from the Revolutionary War were formally laid to rest on May 22, 2026, at Lake George Battlefield Park. These soldiers, believed to have died in 1776 during the Continental Army's invasion of Quebec, were discovered in 2019 during a construction project. The New York State Museum in Albany had studied the remains, revealing that most were young men, with two identified as a woman and a child. The soldiers were part of the 1st Pennsylvania Battalion, which participated in campaigns near Lake George. The burial ceremony included full military honors and was attended by veterans using military vehicles from the Korean and Vietnam wars.
