Mayor Mamdani Appoints Diverse Group to Oversee Judicial Selection in New York City
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced the appointment of 18 former judges, law school professors, and advocate attorneys to a group tasked with recommending candidates for judicial positions in New York City's courts. This initiative follows a January executive order aimed at increasing transparency and inclusivity in the judicial selection process. The group, which includes public defenders and Legal Aid attorneys, will work with the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on the Judiciary to evaluate and recommend candidates for the city’s criminal, family, and civil courts. The appointments are part of Mamdani's effort to ensure that the judicial system reflects the diversity of the city it serves and applies the rule of law impartially.
