Lebanon Launches Biometric Passport Processing at Detroit Consulate, First in U.S.
The Consulate General of Lebanon in Detroit has initiated the processing of the first Lebanese biometric passports in the United States. This marks a significant step in Lebanon's broader digital transition aimed at simplifying the acquisition of official documents, reducing forgery, and easing the burden on Lebanese expatriates. Major General Hassan Ezzat Choucair, director general of Lebanese General Security, and Lebanese Consul General in Detroit Ibrahim Khalil Charara attended the launch. The new biometric passport incorporates an electronic chip that stores the holder's digital photograph and fingerprints from all ten fingers, enhancing security and combating forgery and identity fraud.
