Hackers Exploit Bug in Coldcard Wallets, Stealing Over $130 Million
Hackers have exploited a vulnerability in Coldcard hardware wallets, resulting in the theft of over $130 million in cryptocurrency. The flaw allowed hackers to predict seed phrases, which are used to secure Bitcoin stored offline. Despite Coldcard's reputation for security, the predictable nature of the seed phrases enabled hackers to brute-force access to users' funds. This incident is part of a larger trend of cryptocurrency thefts, with over 200 hacks reported this year, totaling losses of more than $950 million.
