ICE Arrest at Brooklyn Hospital Sparks Protest and Community Outcry
A protest erupted outside Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Bushwick, Brooklyn, following the arrest of Chidozie Wilson Okeke by ICE agents. Okeke, a Nigerian national with previous arrests for assault and drug possession, was detained for overstaying his visa. The arrest, which involved ICE agents using force as Okeke allegedly resisted, drew a large crowd of protesters. Brooklyn councilmember Sandy Nurse was present during the incident, noting that community members quickly gathered in response to ICE's presence. The NYPD was called to manage the crowd, which had become disorderly, although they claimed no involvement in the ICE operation. Eight individuals were charged with offenses such as resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
