San Diego Museum of Art Faces Layoffs Amid Financial Challenges
The San Diego Museum of Art has laid off nearly a dozen employees due to rising operational costs and uncertain funding. The layoffs affect various departments, including operations, development, exhibitions, and programming, reducing the museum's staff to 118. The museum, which is the oldest and most visited in the region, is facing financial strain as federal funding becomes increasingly difficult to secure. Despite celebrating its 100th anniversary and planning an expansion of its west wing, the museum is grappling with the broader challenges of arts funding in the region and nationwide.
