Lifestyle Interventions Show Promise in Protecting Brain Health and Reducing Dementia Risk
Research indicates that structured lifestyle interventions, encompassing diet, sleep, and physical activity, can significantly improve cognitive function in older adults at risk of dementia. Studies like the Latin American Initiative for Lifestyle Intervention to Prevent Cognitive Decline (LatAm-FINGERS) and the U.S. Study to Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk (U.S. POINTER) have demonstrated that these interventions lead to better memory, thinking, and overall cognitive function. The most substantial improvements were observed in participants who received structured support and coaching. Key components of these interventions include prioritizing good sleep, actively managing heart and metabolic health, and adopting a nutritious, balanced diet.
