Lagos State Government Launches Digital Health Innovation Platform to Transform Healthcare
The Lagos State Government has announced a new initiative to leverage digital health, artificial intelligence (AI), and strategic partnerships to enhance healthcare delivery. This was revealed at the Eko Health Convention 2026, where health leaders and technology experts discussed the use of digital innovation to improve health outcomes. The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, highlighted the importance of digital health in generating quality data for research and innovation. The Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP) will connect patient records and health data, enabling the use of AI and machine learning to advance scientific discovery. The initiative aims to move beyond traditional healthcare to focus on prevention and precision medicine, creating new professional categories such as data scientists and biomedical researchers.
