Discord to Introduce 'Game Mode' to Optimize PC Performance for Gamers
Discord, a widely used chat platform for instant messaging and voice/video calls, is developing a new 'Game Mode' feature aimed at reducing its consumption of PC resources during gaming. This upcoming feature, reported by TechRadar and Dexerto, will automatically detect when a game is running and subsequently reduce Discord's visual effects, such as animations and other resource-intensive elements. The goal is to free up CPU and GPU resources, allowing games to run more smoothly. Discord is known for its significant resource usage, particularly due to its Electron-based architecture, which essentially runs a Chromium web app. While Discord already offers options like 'Reduced Motion' and the ability to disable hardware acceleration to mitigate resource drain, 'Game Mode' is expected to automate these optimizations, providing a more seamless experience for users. The feature has been spotted by 'Discord Previews' on X, indicating it is currently in development.
