Flash Flood Claims Five Lives in Southern Utah Canyon
A devastating flash flood swept through a canyon near Bicknell, Utah, on Friday, claiming the lives of five family members who were on a hiking trip. The victims included Spencer Long, a captain in the Provo Fire Department, his wife Katrina, and their three sons, Reid, Thayne, and Gage. Heavy rains in the area caused sudden flooding, which overwhelmed the family during their visit to Sunglow Campground. The Wayne County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident, and the Provo Fire Department expressed their grief over the loss. The family's daughter, who was not on the trip, is the sole survivor. Search and rescue teams, including the Utah Highway Patrol and other agencies, worked to recover the bodies late Friday and Saturday. The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of support, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $184,000 to assist the surviving daughter.
