India's AI Deployment Strategy Focuses on Solving Systemic Challenges
India is focusing on deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to address systemic challenges in sectors such as healthcare, education, and banking, according to Neelkanth Mishra, the newly appointed World Bank Executive Director. Despite lagging behind global leaders in AI model development and semiconductor manufacturing, India sees significant opportunities in applying AI to real-world problems. Mishra highlighted that while India lacks the advanced chip manufacturing capabilities of countries like the United States, it has made progress through initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission. This mission has led to the development of multiple semiconductor packaging facilities, with plans for a wafer fabrication plant in the near future. Mishra emphasized that India's strength lies in the large-scale deployment of AI, which could create substantial economic value.
