Capitol Center for the Arts Renames Chubb Theatre to John F. Swope Theatre Amid Multi-Million Dollar Renovation
The Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, New Hampshire, has announced the renaming of its 1300-person Chubb Theatre to the John F. Swope Theatre. This change honors John Swope, a long-time Concord resident and a pivotal figure in the establishment and continued success of the performing arts center. Swope, who passed away last year at 86, was instrumental in transforming the Capitol Theatre into a comprehensive arts center, which eventually became the nonprofit Capitol Center for the Arts. Executive Director Sal Prizio stated that the renaming is the initial phase of a multi-million dollar renovation project planned for the facility, aiming to modernize the entertainment experience. The previous name, Chubb Theatre, recognized a significant donation secured by Swope from Chubb LifeAmerica during the center's early days. His son, Kevin Swope, noted his father's pride in the recognition, despite his understated nature.
