Datagrid New Zealand Contracts for New Trans-Tasman Cable to Enhance Connectivity
Datagrid New Zealand has signed contracts with Malaysia's OMS Group and Alcatel Submarine Networks to develop the Tasman Ring submarine cable network. This network will connect Australia and New Zealand, specifically linking Invercargill in New Zealand's South Island to Melbourne, Australia. The cable will span 2300 kilometers and is designed to have a capacity of 160 terabits per second. The project aims to improve data transmission latency by up to 45% for South Island universities, research centers, and IT companies. The cable is expected to be operational by 2029.
