Massachusetts Beekeeper Jailed for Releasing Bees on Deputies During Eviction
Rebecca Woods, a beekeeper from Massachusetts, has been sentenced to six months in jail after releasing swarms of bees on sheriff's deputies who were attempting to carry out an eviction at her friend's house. The incident occurred when Woods drove to the property with hives on a trailer and released the bees, resulting in several officers being stung, with one requiring hospital treatment. Woods claimed her intention was to allow the bees to enjoy the landscape, but admitted in court that she was trying to prevent the eviction. The court found her guilty of misdemeanor assault and battery charges. Her friend, an elderly cancer patient, ultimately lost his home.
