Hurricane Rachel Brings High Surf to Southern California
Hurricane Rachel, currently located approximately 500 miles off the coast of Mexico, is generating significant swell energy that will impact Southern California beaches this week. Although the hurricane is not expected to make landfall, its effects include elevated surf, beach erosion, and potentially dangerous rip currents. The National Weather Service has issued beach hazard statements for Los Angeles and Ventura counties from Tuesday afternoon through late Tuesday night, and for Orange and San Diego counties through Friday evening. Additionally, a coastal flood advisory will be in effect from Wednesday morning through Friday night, with tides expected to remain high into the weekend.
