Firefighters Treated for Heat-Related Illness in Columbia, Missouri
On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, multiple firefighters in Columbia, Missouri, were treated for heat-related illnesses while responding to a fire at a McDonald’s located at 200 South Providence Road. According to Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer, the fire started on the main floor of the building and spread to the attic. Smoke was visible from the roof when crews arrived at 4:14 p.m. The Columbia Fire Department confirmed that two firefighters were evaluated for heat-related conditions. The fire scene involved significant activity, with 10 firetrucks and at least three ladders deployed. Four firefighters were observed working on the roof. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and it is unclear if it is connected to recent construction at the site. The McDonald’s is currently closed, but it is not considered a total loss.
