Moldova Broadcaster Chief Resigns Amid Eurovision Voting Controversy
The head of Moldova's public radio and television broadcaster, Vlad Turcanu, has resigned following public protests over the country's jury voting in the recent Eurovision Song Contest. The controversy arose after Moldova's jury awarded only three points to Romania, a neighboring country with which Moldova shares strong cultural and linguistic ties. The decision sparked outrage among fans, who took to social media to express their dissatisfaction. Moldova's jury had given the maximum 12 points to Poland, which finished 12th in the contest, and ten points to Israel, the second-place finisher. The public's reaction was further fueled by the jury's decision to award no points to Ukraine's entry. Turcanu stated that while the broadcaster distanced itself from the jury's voting, he felt responsible as the head of the institution.
