El Salvador's President Bukele Announces Record Education Investment and Scholarship Program
El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele has announced a record investment in education, allocating over 8% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to the sector, totaling more than $3 billion annually. This figure is three times higher than previous administrations' investments. The announcement was made to approximately 30,000 public sector students at the National Stadium Jorge 'Mágico' González in San Salvador. As part of this initiative, President Bukele also unveiled a university scholarship program designed to benefit around 50,000 students. This program, financed by a $100 million agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), aims to ensure that access to higher education is not dependent on a specific government or budget.
