Severe Weather Outbreak with Tornadoes Targets Kansas and Nebraska
A rare Level 4 out of 5 severe weather threat has been issued by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center for parts of Kansas and southeastern Nebraska. The primary hazards include violent EF-3+ tornadoes, large hail up to softball size, and damaging wind gusts. The severe weather is expected to develop early Monday afternoon, with the highest risk occurring in central and northeastern Kansas, including Wichita. A broader severe weather threat spans over 1,000 miles, affecting more than 80 million people from North Texas to western New York. The storms are expected to organize into a line by nighttime, shifting the primary threat to damaging winds up to 75 mph. Cooler air from morning rain may limit storm intensity in some areas.
