Wabash Valley Railroad Museum Hosts Fundraiser for Flood-Damaged Whitewater Valley Railroad
The Wabash Valley Railroad Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana, recently hosted a fundraiser called 'Day Out for Whitewater Valley' to support the Whitewater Valley Railroad. This event was organized in response to extensive damage caused by flooding on August 13. The West Fork of the Whitewater River crested at 21.78 feet at Alpine, Indiana, impacting the railroad which runs alongside the historic Whitewater Canal towpath. The floodwaters inflicted significant damage, necessitating extensive repairs before trains can safely operate again. The Whitewater Valley Railroad, an all-volunteer organization, is currently assessing the full extent of the damage and requires substantial resources and time for restoration. Railroad museums and organizations across Indiana and the country are collaborating to provide support.
