Stephen Curry Reveals Long-Undiagnosed Keratoconus Eye Condition, Advocates for Awareness
NBA All-Star Stephen Curry has disclosed his long-standing battle with keratoconus, an eye condition characterized by the thinning and outward bulging of the cornea, leading to blurry or distorted vision. Curry, known for his exceptional shooting, had unknowingly compensated for these visual impairments for years. The condition was brought to his attention during the 2018-19 season when former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers observed him squinting on the bench and urged him to get his eyes checked. This led to his diagnosis and the subsequent use of corrective contact lenses. Curry described experiencing symptoms like ghosting, light sensitivity, and headaches, which he previously attributed to other factors. He now partners with Glaukos, an ophthalmic medical technology company, and uses his platform to raise awareness about keratoconus, particularly within Black and Hispanic communities, which are disproportionately affected.
