Puna Residents Face Long Waits for Post Office Boxes Amid Growing Population
In Puna, Hawaii, residents face significant challenges in accessing mail services due to a shortage of post office boxes. With a population that has grown by 20,000 people since 2000, the area has only 7,911 P.O. boxes across four post offices. Many neighborhoods lack residential mail delivery, forcing residents to rely on post office boxes or pay for private mailbox services. The limited availability of boxes and long wait times for mail pickup have made it difficult for residents to receive important documents, vote by mail, and access online shopping.
