Senate Crypto Bill Proposes Ban on Federal Officials Issuing Digital Assets
The U.S. Senate is considering an updated version of the Clarity Act, which includes a provision to ban federal officials, including presidents, from issuing or sponsoring digital assets. The bill, led by Sen. Cynthia Lummis, aims to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets and includes ethics provisions to prevent conflicts of interest. President Trump, who reportedly earned $1.2 billion from crypto-related activities, has agreed to the ethics section. The bill faces opposition from some Democrats who argue that the Department of Justice is not the appropriate body to enforce these provisions.
