AI in Rural Healthcare: Opportunities and Concerns
States across the U.S. are exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in rural healthcare as part of the Rural Health Transformation Program. AI is being considered for automating tasks like medical charting and coding, with the potential to reduce clinician burnout and improve patient care. However, there is skepticism among rural residents about AI's role in personal healthcare, with concerns about errors and the loss of human interaction. While AI offers potential benefits, such as reducing staffing burdens, it is not seen as a solution to all challenges faced by rural healthcare facilities.
