Rutland County Council Initiates Public Consultation for New Local Plan Amid Increased Housing Requirements
Rutland County Council has launched a five-week scoping consultation for its new Local Plan 2026-2046, inviting residents, businesses, and communities to provide input. This consultation, running from September 10 to October 14, 2026, marks the initial formal stage in developing the plan under the government's updated National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The primary driver for this new plan is a significant increase in Rutland's annual housing requirement, which has risen from 123 homes to 269 homes following national planning policy changes introduced in December 2024. Although Rutland has an existing local plan for 2021-2041 currently undergoing examination, the council was mandated to begin work on a replacement plan immediately to address the higher housing targets.
